Asian women never seem to age. They look years if not even decades younger and it is not all down to the genes. When I look at my mum and she is in her sixties now (I promised to keep her exact age a secret), she looks at least a third younger. And I hope that when I am her age, my skin will look even half as good as hers does. Using beauty rituals or a special routine along with skincare products, it seems they can preserve their youthful looks forever. A good anti ageing skincare routine helps you age well, naturally and gracefully.
Asian Beauty Secret #1 – See Your skincare As A Holistic Practice
Asian skincare is about a healthy lifestyle. What is good for your body is good for your skin. Everything you eat and drink affects your complexion directly. Asian skincare routine goes beyond hydration and makeup. That means, be conscious of the food that you eat. Eat balanced, healthy food if possible organic, exercise regularly and sleep well. Be consistent with your holistic skincare. I know it’s tough. Especially if you are working or have kids to put to sleep. But give yourself time. Respect your skin. You don’t get a second one. Your skin will thank you for it 10 years later.
Asian Beauty Secret #2 – Use A Gentle Cleanser
Asian women tend to avoid harsh products that are stripping the skin of its natural oils and that have a long list of ingredients. By using gentler products the skin remains hydrated.
Even though cleansing is vital for healthy skin because it washes away the daily grime and any makeup as well as bacteria that could get into pores and create breakouts; try to cleanse your skin only once a day otherwise you will dry it out. The best time to cleanse is before bedtime to remove all the dirt and pollutants that your skin is exposed to during daytime. You should always cleanse your face before going to bed, whether you wear a makeup or not.
In the morning wash your face with only water, do not use a face wash. The water will wash away any impurities that may have settled overnight.
Asian Beauty Secret #2 Double Cleanse
If you wear makeup, always double cleanse. The first step is to remove makeup and the second to purify the skin and to remove dirt and spot causing sebum.
In the first step apply oil based makeup cleanser to dry skin with dry hands and massage to remove the makeup. Make a round and upwards movement with your fingertips to rub back and clean the foundation and BB cream for best results. Rinse with lukewarm water. In the second step, use a gentle foam or cream cleanser.
You can opt to use a konjac sponge. It will give you a most delicate and non-irritating cleanse while being more thorough as when you use your hands and a face wash.
Asian Beauty Secret #3 – Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
After cleansing follow up with a toner. Toning is an essential process; it helps remove pollutants from your cleansers along with any rest of makeup. It also helps to restore the pH balance of the skin. It softens your skin and prepares it to absorb the products of the following steps Asian toners are less harsh and drying since they usually do not contain alcohol which only dry skin out and may make you feel like you’re squeaky clean but squeaky is not actually a good feeling if you want to retain youthful looking skin.
Using mists, toner, essences, sheet masks, moisturizer and night packs, layering will help you achieve the radiance, glow. Also, to remain hydrated throughout the day, you can use light mist facial sprays over the face to keep your skin moisturized as well as your foundation fresh.
Make sure to apply your skincare before bedtime. Since it is during sleep that your skin cells turnover and do their hardest work at cell recovery you need to make sure your skin stays hydrated as you revive overnight.
Asian Beauty Secret #4 – Pat Don’t Rub
When you apply your skincare products gently pat or tap until they are fully absorbed into the skin. You can even go so far as to “slap” your face. Asian women believe this stimulates blood flow and increase energy levels in the skin, keeping the skin firmed and toned.
To “slap” your toner and other skincare until absorbed, use your finger tips to quickly pat your face in a round and upwards motion. Only use gentle pressure when you “slap” your skin to apply skincare.
Asian Beauty Secret #5 – Always Protect The Skin
The sun is not our friend. Unfortunately, the sun is the cause for ageing, skin damage and cancer. The sun can also cause dark spots if measures are not taken. Asians are absolutely religious about skincare and sunscreen. So they wear sunscreen all the time, even on a dark, rainy day. You should always protect your skin whenever you are outdoors. It doesn’t matter what season it is or what climate you live or work in, you should always apply sunblock.
